Description Rugby 1970 Article 1: Convincing win for Kingswood In the Kingswood/St. Aidain’s match, St. Aidan’s opened the score with a penalty in the 4th minute. Four minutes later the Kingswood 8th man Watson scored from good reverse play movement. Fly-half Wellington converted. Halfway into the first half, Wellington put over a penalty, making the score 3-8. St. Aidan’s were successful with a penalty in the closing minutes of the first half, to make the half-time score 6-8. Not long after play resumed in the second half, Kingswood right-wing Gosling ran 40 yards to score near the posts, Wellington converted. In the 13th minute of the second half, Wellington put over a good drop, making the score 6-16. Two minutes later the Kingswood scrum-half, C. van Niekerk, broke round the blind side of a scrum to score a superb try in the corner. The conversion failed. In the 20th minute the Kingswood flank, H. Hobson, fought his way over the line for a good try. Wellington converted. In the closing minutes of play, Wellington put over another, fine drop to make the final score: Kingswood 27, St.- Aidan’s 6. Article 2: Kingswood trounce St Aidans KINGSWOOD … 27 I ST AIDAN’S … 6 GRAHAMSTOWN. — Kingswood outplayed St Aidans to win by 27-6. St Aidan’s were first to score when Christie goaled a penalty. Kingswood replied with a try by Watson, converted by Wellington. Wellington increased their lead with a good penalty (8-3). St Aidans managed to hold their heavier opponents and at half-time the score was 8-6 after St Aidans scored another penalty, this time by Eley. In the second half Kingswood outplayed St Aidan and a try was . scored by Gosling, converted by I Wellington (13-6). Wellington then put over a snap drop to make it 16-6. Kingswood’s scrum-half, C. Van Niekerk, broke well and scored (19-6). A try by Hobson, converted by Wellington, made it 24-6 and another drop by Wellington made it 27-6 in favour of Kingswood.
