Description Rugby 1970 Article 1: Graeme beat Kingswood GRAEME … 15 KINGSWOOD … 6 GRAHAMSTOWN. — In an exciting inter-schools game, Graeme College had the territorial advantage in the first half and were winning more scrums and lineouts than Kingswood, but were unable to penetrate Kingswood’s defence. . The scoring opened after 20 minutes with Wellington, the Kingswood fly-half, putting over a very good drop to make the score 3-0. Soon afterwards the Graeme fly- half, Edge, replied with a similar good drop to make the score 3-3. Then Graeme were penalised in front of their posts, Wellington made no mistake to increase the score to 6-3 in Kingswood’s favour. Just on half-time Edge dropped his second goal to make the score 6-6 at half-time. In the second half Watson scored a penalty for Graeme and soon afterwards Graeme were awarded another penalty after a late tackle and Watson again converted to make the score 12-6. With a few minutes to full time, Graeme forwards, playing magnificently, stormed down to the Kingswood line and King, their No. 8, scored midwey [midway] between the poles and touch-line to make the final score 15-6. The conversion failed. Article 2: Graeme wins exciting match In a thrilling inter-schools match on Saturday, Graeme College beat Kingswood by 15 points to 6 on the Graeme main field. The game was characterised by many attempts at drop goals and forward play. Scoring opened after 20 minutes when Wellington, the Kingswood fly-half, put over an excellent drop kick to make the score 3-0. Soon afterwards the Graeme fly-half, Edge, replied with a drop kick of similar calibre. Then Kingswood moved into the lead again after a successful penalty kick in front of Graeme’s posts. Just on half-time, Edge put his second successful drop over, making the haif-time score 6-6. Halfway into the second half the Graeme wing, Watson, succeeded with two penalties to make the score 12 6 in Graeme’s favour. With a few minutes left to play, the Graeme forwards, who dominated up front, stormed to the Kingswood line for their 8th man, King, to score, the conversion failed. Kingswood 2nd 8, Graeme 2nd 5. Kingswood U15A 6, Graeme U15A 6. Kingswood U14A 3, Graeme U14A 3.
