Description IN an exhilarating display of running rugby, Kingswood College, Grahamstown, narrowly beat Selborne 11-9 in the main curtain-raiser to the Border-Transvaal Currie Cup match in East London this afternoon. Play swung excitingly from one end of the field to the other as both sets of three-quarters attacked in turn. A feature of the game was the stout defences of the teams, though Selborne could not always hold Van Niekerk, the Kingswood left wing, in check. Selborne opened the scoring when Edkins brought off an interception to run in from 20 yards out and score. Just on half-time Van Niekerk shook off three tackles in a splendid run and the conversion by Salmon put Kingswood into a 5-3 lead. Ten minutes into the second half Selborne failed to stop a foot rush and Anderson grabbed the ball for a try close in. Again Salmon converted. Selborne came back with exciting play by their three-quarters and Steenkamp rounded off a good move for a try near the corner. Shortly before the final whistle Weber succeeded with a simple penalty.
